What is an “Industrial MacGyver”?

When people ask me what an industrial contractor does, the response is usually a glazed-over stare. When I add that the work we do is “Industrial MacGyver” type work, they ask for more details. People tend to know how we are used in their own plants, but some people find it interesting to know what we are doing for others. Here are a few recent examples:

Cummins: Cummins has increased its floor loading capacity by adding equipment to its floor area. As it has done this, a need has come up to reinforce concrete building columns to better support the floor. Unfortunately, most of the columns are not easily accessible. Besides fabrication and installation of the support systems, Maddox will also do all the work to expose and replace the interfering structures and objects.

Citizen’s Thermal Energy: The Morris Street Bridge in Indianapolis has two steam lines that run underneath it. One of the large concrete supports near the steam line has become dislodged and is resting on the line. Using an engineered raft and rigging equipment, we will be clearing that piece from the steam line.

JFS America/Tokusen: This week, we will ship some newly fabricated stainless-steel tanks for JFS America/Tokusen. One of the tanks is over 60 feet long. All of the tanks were fabricated in our shop. They will be shipped to the site, assembled together and then insulated.

Bastian Material Handling/Electro-Spec: We are currently installing a modular building on an existing mezzanine. The building is unique because it must be assembled around existing electrical equipment. Maddox helped come up with a design change regarding how the panels are installed to ensure a clean installation around the electrical conduits.
